Folksonomies & Tagging - Library Thing

Monday 29th June 2009
I have created a Library Thing account to keep a record of books in my library related to icons. My library has grown over the past 5 years and just a few of my books are listed.

Folksonomies & Tagging - Technorati

Monday 29th June 2009
Searching Technorati for "Byzantine icons" retrieved just 16 results, while Byzantine icons retrieved 109. The listing of videos included in the search results were interesting.
The advanced feature proved useful for a specific search on "Saint Christina" with a tag of hagiography. This site was located along with another from Catholic Fire.
Technorati may be a useful tool for reference queries where little information is located in traditional resources.

Mi Piace Del.icio.us

Del.icio.us
Monday 29th June 2009
Today I have created a Del.icio.us account. The first site I have tagged is for the Cultural Gifts Program & the listing of Approved Valuers. I use this site regularly in my work as a reference librarian.

Mi Piacciono RSS Feeds

Friday 26th June 2009

My other passion in life is icon painting. I have been learning the technique of traditional icon painting since August 2004 with 'The Icon Painters of Brisbane'. To date I have completed 3 icons and have 3 more almost completed.

I have searched for blogs by other icon painters and have decided to follow 2 sites.

Gabriele in Germany has an interesting blog following the steps of her icon painting.

David Cassens, a librarian in St Louis also provides material of interest.

Mi Paicciano Social Networks

Friday 26th June 2009

Social networking in the work place is just another means of communication. My experience is limited to professional organisations. Here is the link to The Art Libraries Society / Australia and New Zealand.

Mi Piacciono Wikis!

St Joseph CountyPublic Library's Subject Guides wiki

This wiki provides useful links to subject organised categories. I particularly enjoyed browsing the subject guides under hobbies & entertainment. Great application of a wiki for libraries. The article Antiques & Collectibles is of particular interest as it provides a model for a similar application in my library.
